Home owners, Ryan and Sarah Murphy, were in for a big surprise after recently purchasing their first place together.
A medium sized bungalow in Essex, the property was in great demand. However, the stress of competing against other buyers meant that during the whole of the purchase period, Ryan and Sarah missed the one thing that became impossible to avoid on the day they moved in; the house looks nothing like Sir Ian McKellen.
Sarah told us that she is feeling a little embarrassed about the whole situation, and admits that she is expecting to encounter some awkward situations in the coming months.
"We visited the bungalow immediately after the purchase went through. As I opened the car door I was shocked by what I saw and immediately shouted to Ryan that the house looks absolutely nothing like Sir Ian McKellen.
"Obviously we weren't planning to have a house that looks like a person, so I'm not upset about that. However, everything about the house just screams 'I don't look like Sir Ian McKellen'. I just know the neighbours will be talking about it behind our backs, and I am readying myself for a few difficult conversations with them in the future"
The couple have assured us that they are coming to terms with the aesthetics of their new home, and they will be taking extra care to fully inspect any future purchases they may make.
It is a cautionary tale for all prospective first time buyers to take note of, and a warning that will hopefully stay at the forefront of our minds next time we look to buy a property.
